The Australian Future Agro Challenge, now in its fourth year, is the Australian arm of the largest global initiative to discover fundable food, agtech and agriculture innovators from around the world.

Six agriculture entrepreneurs from across Australia will present their innovative ideas in an exciting pitch competition on Saturday afternoon, 2nd of November at Skybury’s stunning venue outside of Mareeba, as they compete to represent Australia for the title of Global Agripreneur of the Year.

We also have a fantastic lineup of speakers throughout the afternoon including Guest Speaker: KPMG’s national Head of AgriTech – Ben van Delden; Rachel Cliffe, Regional General Manager Northern Queensland, Telstra; and Australia’s representative at last year’s Global FAC, Jess Fealy.

After a networking session, where you can mix with our judges, sponsors, organisers and finalists, we will all gather to hear from our Guest Speaker: KPMG’s national Head of AgriTech – Ben van Delden who is one of Australia’s leaders in researching and understanding agriculture trends.

Coming from a family business background in aquaculture, livestock and horticulture, Ben has a passion for the agribusiness sector. He has experience at every level of farm and food innovation – developing regional plans to increase farm output, working with the agriculture industry through groups like the Meat & Livestock Association and grower groups to identify solutions for farmers, and being involved with agtech incubators and startups to assess market opportunities and accelerate commercialisation.

Dinner will follow Ben’s presentation and then the winner of AusFAC 2019 will be announced! This is going to be a huge weekend of amazing agtech, innovation and discussion around the future of food and farming – we can’t wait to see you there!

Our simply wonderful sponsors: AusIndustry, Telstra, Tablelands Regional Council, FIAL, Elders Malanda, Growcom, Rotary Atherton, Mareeba Shire Council, Farm Doctors, Startup Tablelands and Boldacious Digital. Please do not hesitate to support them in the future.

Atherton Tablelands Jess to Greece

jess-fealy

The Atherton Tablelands will be represented at this year’s Global Agripreneurs Summit in Greece. Jessica Fealy, local Mareeba farmer and business mentor, flies out today, representing a small and very dedicated Future Agro Challenge Australia team. Jessica will be speaking at the event as well as being part of the judging panel to select 10 finalists from the total 60 competing agripreneurs vying for the title of Global Agripreneur of the Year. One of the competitors also attending from Australia, are last year’s national winners, Swarm Farm Robotics from Emerald.

The Global Agripreneurs Summit is an assembly of agrifood innovators and leaders from around the world – where farmers, agripreneurs, chefs, investors, organisations, policy makers, and other thought leaders work together to help bring life to game-changing innovations, and propel agriculture as a sustainable source of growth and economic development. Every year, the Summit travels to a new destination, from Colombia 2016 to South Africa 2017, to Turkey 2018, and now in Greece 2019, to energize the traditional agrifood industry into an innovative space.

The 4th Global Agripreneurs Summit will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece on September 7-11, 2019 within the context of the Thessaloniki International Fair, the most important exhibition event in Greece with more than 263,000 visitors and inaugurated every year by the Prime Minister.

This year, the 4th Global Agripreneurs Summit has centred its theme as “Defining the Future Farmer 4.0”. Envisioning how technology will transform the farmer, food, and nutrition. What will the current role of the farmer become? What changes will this create in the food industry? How will we address nutrition in this new dialogue? What new models will the food logistics industry absorb? What skills will be needed for the future farmer? How can traditional farmers prepare for agriculture 4.0? Should robots substitute current farmer roles or do farmers play a substantial role beyond what robots are able to offer us? This year the event embarks on a better understanding of the future farmer.

The Summit will host the renowned FAC Global Championships: the Olympics of Agripreneurship showcasing cutting-edge solutions from around the world to award the Agripreneur of the Year. It will be proceeded by targeted workshops and trainings. The global stage will present influencers and controversial voices from the field of sustainability, food security, production and traceability to engage in intellectual pursuits. B2B meetings will encourage farmers, startups, industry experts and stakeholders to participate in new synergies and cross border opportunities. While policy roundtables will accelerate the global dialogue between policymakers and innovators.

The Australian Future Agro Challenge – AusFAC – is now open for nominations for 2019! Enter now for your chance to represent Australia at the 2020 Global Agripreneurs Summit.
